Marquette – Film fans are invited to enjoy a bring your own dinner film event with a screening of “Moonlight” on Tuesday, June 20 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
“Moonlight” is the story of an African American gay man growing up in Miami. As a young adolescent, a shy and withdrawn Chiron grows up neglected by his crack addicted mother but protected by her drug dealer Juan. Later as a teenager, he struggles with his sexuality, and as a young man, he must learn how to protect himself. This 2016 drama is rated R and runs 1 hour and 51 minutes.
This movie will be introduced by Dr. Laura Santoro and Marissa Wolf. Dr. Santoro is a family practice physician at the Lakewood Clinic in Harvey. She received her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and has a special interest in LGBT health. Ms. Wolf is a board member UP Rainbow Pride, an organization that started in 2013 with the goal of hosting local LGBTQIA events in the UP. After the movie they will be available for a question and answer session.
