Marquette – CineArts Films, a series devoted to foreign and independent films, will present the fifth annual Reel China, a program celebrating Chinese culture on Friday, November 4 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The film is “Coming Home” directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li, and Chen Daoming. A devoted couple, Lu and Feng, is forced to separate during the Cultural Revolution. When Lu is released years later, he returns home to find his beloved wife has amnesia and remembers little of the past. Unable to recognize Lu, Feng patiently awaits her husband’s return. Llu is determined to awaken his wife’s memory through gentle displays of unconditional and eternal love.
Released in 2014, the film is in Mandarin with English subtitles, runs for 109 minutes and is rated PG-13.
