Indigenous Art Event at NMU – Nov. 2

Marquette, MichiganOctober 30, 2015 – The Center for Native American Studies at Northern Michigan University will host “Indigenous Art: Past and Present” on Monday, Nov. 2. Two presenters will explore two distinct series of indigenous art. While they represent different media, eras and tribal affiliations, both illustrate the human condition and the Native American experience historically and currently. The event is scheduled from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in NMU’s DeVos Art Museum.

April Lindala will present “Art of the Six Nations.” These selected pieces from the museum’s permanent collection speak to the economic, historic and diverse traditions found within diverse traditions found within the art of the Haudenosaunee.

Leora Lancaster’s 7th Generation series shows the obstacles Indigenous peoples face while trying to relearn their Indigenous lifeways.

This event is made possible by the NMU Center for Native American Studies and the DeVos Art Museum as part of the Native American Heritage Month celebration throughout November. Light refreshments will be served.
