Marquette, Michigan –
On 01/22/2024 at approximately 3:35pm a male entered Marquette City Hall lower-level and
requested to speak with a police officer. While waiting he confronted a civilian with a handgun
who exited the building safely. The male then approached the police department front window again,
and confronted officers with the handgun.
City Hall was evacuated and / or sheltered in place, and a perimeter was established containing
the incident to the lower level of City Hall. After conversing with the male for approximately 90
minutes, he was eventually disarmed by officers. A loaded handgun was recovered. The male
was transported to UPHS-Marquette for evaluation. The male and one officer received minor
injuries. The officer did not seek medical attention. The incident remains under investigation
and will be forwarded to the Marquette County Prosecutors Office for review.
Assisting with this incident was the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police,
NMU Police Department, Marquette Fire Department, UPHS-Marquette EMS, and Marquette
County Central Dispatch.
