Carp River History Hike
Thursday, August 14
6:30pm
Meet at the base of Mount Marquette.
Tickets online at marquettehistory.org or purchase at the History Center.
Join us for an interesting evening as we explore the Carp River and some of its very unique history. Noted local archaeologist Jim Paquette and Assistant Professor of Anthropology at NMU, will lead the hike as we explore the relationship between the river and our first inhabitants. We’ll visit sites, discuss geology and learn about the impact of European explorers and settlers.
The 60 minute hike will start at the base of Mount Marquette at 6:30 on Thursday August 14th. Wear comfortable shoes, dress for the weather and bugs. The terrain is uneven and there are hills. We will honor the memory of the late Dr. John Anderton who shared his passion for archeology with many of us. We’ll finish the hike with iced tea, lemonade and cookies. Tickets are $10 and are available at the History Center or online marquettehistory.org. There will be limited tickets available that evening. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Marquette Regional History Center.
