It Takes a Community to Build a Co-Op

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – As anyone who’s been involved with a multi-million dollar construction project knows, it takes nothing short of a minor miracle to pull everything together and get the job done. There are a lot of moving parts that all need to work together to keep the project moving. All this working together requires a lot of good-natured, smiling people who are willing to cooperate and put in some serious sweat equity.

Many hands have helped push the Marquette Food Co-op’s expansion closer to the goal of opening on May 22nd. The expansion would not be possible without the continued support of the Co-op’s owners. The Co-op’s ownership purchased 400 shares, raising a total of $400,000 to help fund the project and membership enrollment has been above average since the first of the year.
