Finnish Folk Rock/Soul Duo Performs at NMU March 21st

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Markus Nordenstreng and Tuomo Prättälä, a Finnish folk rock and soul duo, will perform at Northern Michigan University as part of the Northern Nights series. The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, in Jamrich Hall 102. Tickets can be purchased in advance at NMU EZ Ticket outlets or at the door. Prices are: students/kids, $5 advance/$6 door; NMU faculty/staff/seniors 60+, $13/$15; and general public, $18/$20.

Nordenstreng is a singer/songwriter from Helsinki, Finland. With 
three solo albums to date the 39-year-old vocalist/guitarist/pianist is also the founding member of Finnish roots rock quintet, The Latebirds. Over the years, his band has shared the stage with many famous artists includingWilco, Patti Smith, The Pretenders, The Jayhawks, The Soundtrack Of Our
 Lives and The Posies. He is also among the handful Scandinavian¨ singers who’ve performed on the original Grand Ole Opry

Prättälä is a Finnish jazz and soul musician perhaps best known for his contributions to such bands as Quintessence, Q-Continuum, Huba and the Ilmiliekki Quartet. He started playing piano at 7 and continued his interest through his studies at the Finnish pop and jazz conservatory. His singing style has been greatly influenced by Prince, Steve Wonder, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye. In January 2007, his first solo album, “My Thing,” was released by Texicalli Records to great critical and popular success.
