Marquette, Mich. — Northern Michigan University will host a local Relay for Life event this weekend to raise funds for cancer research, increase awareness, honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones who lost their battles. It will be held from noon Friday, March 21, through noon Saturday, March 22, in Vandament Arena.
Relay for Life is an international movement, with about four million participants in 20 countries. NMU has held its annual event since 2005. This year’s fundraising goal is $25,000, an increase from last year’s ending balance of about $23,000.
More than 50 teams are expected, with a total of 800-1,000 participants. Rosemary Magidsohn, the co-chair of event development/logistics, welcomes anybody who has been affected by cancer to attend.
“We have a lot of people come who didn’t register, which is fine, of course. The more the merrier,” said Magidsohn.
