At the U.P. Local Food Summit, keynote speaker Ken Meter said, “If each U.P. resident purchased $5 of food each week directly from farmers in the region, this would generate $80 million of new farm revenue for local farms.” The demand for local food is growing and as the above article points out, more schools will be demanding local food in the future. Thanks to UPFE’s Online Marketplace, making produce available for purchase by institutions is easier than ever. Now is the time to start thinking about reaching the wholesale institutional buyer market!
What’s the best way to go about this, you ask? Come to Farmer/Buyer Meet and Greet! This event is geared towards connecting local growers with institutional buyers (restaurants, hospitals, hotels, schools, etc.) to allow space for introductions, networking, and planning for the coming growing season. This will be a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with people who will buy your produce in large quantities.
There will be four events across the U.P.; you are welcome to attend more than one.
