Marquette, Michigan — Readers Theater welcomes the public to join in a reading of “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles on Thursday, September 19 at 7:00pm in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.
This Athenian drama chronicles the story of Oedipus, a man who becomes the king of Thebes and was destined from birth to murder his father and marry his mother. The play was first performed circa 429 BC and is an example of a classic tragedy, noticeably containing an emphasis on how Oedipus’s own faults contribute to the tragic hero’s downfall, as opposed to having fate be the sole cause.
Readers Theater is a group of adults, who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the third Thursday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New readers are always welcome.
