Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan Donates New Releases at Peter White Public Library

Marquette, MI – November 30, 2022 – Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan is extending Giving Tuesday throughout the week to area libraries through the donation of special new release hardcover children’s books, “The First Notes: The Story of Do, Re, Mi” written by award-winning actress, singer, and author, Julie Andrews, and daughter, author, Emma Walton Hamilton. The book tells the story of how music was first written so others could learn and share.

Do-Re-Me is a song that many people know from the Sound of Music. Through this book, children and adults learn about music and the history behind written music.

“Music has so many wonderful components tied to literacy. Reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking are all key components of literacy, which helps us to communicate effectively and to make sense of the world around us,” said LLF Michigan Founder and President Nancy Seminoff. “This is a lovely story with colorful images that both children and adults can enjoy.”

LLF Michigan will be stopping by additional libraries throughout the week to share the new book. The community is encouraged to visit their local libraries to continue reading.

Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting a literate Michigan citizenry of all ages through the distribution of charitable funds to enhance literacy-related efforts.
