The Greater Ishpeming and Negaunee Area Community Funds Hold a Shared 19th Anniversary Celebration December 4th

A historic building in downtown Negaunee will spotlight its 102nd birthday in concert with the 19th anniversary of two area Community Foundations. The gathering at the century old Negaunee National Bank building, will take place on December 4, 2013, as the Greater Ishpeming Area and Negaunee Area Community Funds (both affiliate of the Marquette County Community Foundation) celebrate their development. The appreciation celebration is open to both past and interested community foundation supporters. The evening’s activity will get underway at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments and music provided by a Negaunee High School orchestral ensemble. Past donors will be recognized and grants will be presented to local non-profit organizations, including:

  • The Negaunee Beautification Committee
  • N.I.C.E. Community Schools
  • Great Lakes Recovery Center for Youth
  • Ishpeming Salvation Army
  • Michigan Iron Industry Museum
  • Liberty Children’s Art Project
  • Lakeview School
  • Renaissance Festival & Art Faire
  • Michigamme Kid’s Halloween Party
  • Ishpeming Historical Society
  • Negaunee Public Schools Speech Dept
  • Greater Ishpeming Comm. On Aging

Owner, Jim Kantola, will speak about the renovations of the old bank at 318 Iron Street, now named the Negaunee National Bankquette Hall.  NACF President Jack Lenten said, “In 1994 with the help of the Marquette County Community Foundation, affiliate boards were established in Negaunee and Ishpeming to build and sustain a better community for generations to come by encouraging its residents, friends, and businesses to invest in the future of our area. Today through our donors, the affiliates have an asset base of over $2,000,000. Without spending a cent of the endowed donations, over $300,000 of the income generated from investments has been dispersed through grants and scholarships to area non-profit organizations and students.” The program is open to the public.
