“From Junkyard to Jazz, the Wide World of Percussion”
Marquette, Mich.– The Northern Michigan University Music Department will host a free concert featuring the NMU Percussion Ensemble at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
The concert, titled “From Junkyard to Jazz, the Wide World of Percussion,” will include music ranging from traditional Western genres to the music of Latin America and African countries. The ensemble will perform selections on standard percussion instruments such as drums, xylophones, and timpani as well as “found” instruments including five-gallon buckets and brake drums. The group is directed by Professor James Strain.
