Progressive Folk Music Group, Le Vent du Nord, to Perform at NMU, April 7

Marquette, Mich.– Le Vent Du Nord, a progressive folk music group from Quebec, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in Kaufman Auditorium. The concert is part of Northern Michigan University’s Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center Concert Series.

Le Vent Du Nord plays songs from the traditional folk repertoire as well as original compositions. The group’s instrumentation features accordion, guitar, fiddle and a traditional European stringed instrument called the hurdy-gurdy.

Since the band was founded in 2002, it has performed more than 1,600 concerts. Le Vent Du Nord has received a variety of awards, including “Artist of the Year” at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala and two Junos, the awards presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Le Vent Du Nord was a featured performer of the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Concert Series in 2008 and also headlined the Hiawatha Traditional Folk Festival in 2011.

Tickets purchased in advance at NMU outlets or online are $18 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets will also be available at the door for $20 for adults and $12 for students.
