Marquette – Northern Michigan University will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Monday, January 15, beginning with a march for equality. Participants will assemble at noon in the lobby of NMU’s Magers and Meyland Halls.
A lunch and Poetry without Borders event will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the University Center’s Peter White Lounge. Service projects begin at 2 p.m.
Poetry without Borders entails readings of poetry from around the world. Individuals who would like to read or perform a poem can recite it in any language, and the event is open to the public.
Service project opportunities include creating Valentine’s Day cards for veterans, knitting scarves and hats for the Harbor House, making dog toys for UPAWS, reading for children at the U.P. Children’s Museum, volunteer orientation for Room at the Inn and volunteer training for the NMU Food Pantry. Register for service projects at nmu.edu/skillbuilders.
