Marquette – The Northern Michigan Biology Department will host a seminar addressing the impacts of the most common lampricide on sturgeon on Thursday, October 26 at 11 a.m. in 2701 West Science on the NMU campus.
Matthew J Symbal will present a seminar titled “Long Term Effects of Sub-Lethal Lampricide, 3-Trifluoromethyl-4-Nitrophenol (TFM), Exposure on the Metabolic Physiology of Juvinile Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens).” Lampricides are the primary weapon in the control of sea lamprey populations in the Great Lakes, but relatively little is known about their effects on non-targeted species.
