The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has expanded its Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support (MEECS) program offering it online for the first time. Typically, MEECS is only offered through a workshop format, but now teachers can access MEECS modules in a new partnership with Grand Valley State University and PBS. Check out PBS Learning Media and type MEECS in the search bar.
Of course, face to face experiential learning, with a trained MEECS Facilitator, is always the most rewarding option. These formal workshops (4-6 hours in length) cover different Michigan environmental topics. Peer reviewed and highly educational curricula binders focus on Air Quality, Water Quality, Ecosystems, Land Use, Energy Resources, Climate Change and Land and Environment. Many Michigan educators spend years seeking training workshops to learn these lessons and pick up materials. This summer, DEQ and DNR have partnered to offer all seven units at the July Academy of Natural Resources in a course entitled, MEECS WEEK. This incredible opportunity is a once in a lifetime value.
