Marquette – The Northern Michigan University Center for Native American Studies and Sault Tribe Community Health will co-host a Decolonizing Diet Project cooking demonstration on Friday, September 9 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Sault Tribe Health Clinic in Munising.
Leora Lancaster, April Lindala and Marty Reinhardt from NMU will lead the workshop, which is open to 25 registrants. The trio edited a “Decolonizing Diet Project” cookbook, based on a year-long study by Reinhardt. In an effort to closely replicate his Native American ancestors’ way of life prior to colonization, he and a diverse group of voluntary research participants followed a diet consisting of foods indigenous to the Great Lakes region, complemented by an exercise regimen.
