Marquette, Michigan – November 11, 2015 – The Northern Climate Network at Northern Michigan University will host a presentation titled “UP Forests and Climate Change: Risks, Opportunities and Ways to Adapt” on Friday, Nov. 13. Stephen Handler, climate change specialist for the U.S. Forest Service, will lead the discussion at noon in 1318 Jamrich Hall. The public is invited.
Forests of the Upper Peninsula have been shaped by the combination of landscape, climate and management. Expected climate change may pose challenges to the long-term stability of the forests, so it is important for forest landowners to consider their particular risks, opportunities and ways to adapt. This presentation will cover ongoing work from the region related to climate change vulnerability and adaptation strategies for U.P. Forests.
