MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – The Marquette Downtown Development Authority recently received a MI Place Plan initiative grant for redesign assistance to Baraga Avenue. The MI Place Plan team is a collaboration between the Michigan Municipal League (MML), the MSU Urban and Regional Planning Program and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). The project parameters are Baraga Avenue from Third Street to Lakeshore Boulevard and will address development and redevelopment opportunities, traffic, transportation, walkability and access to adjacent neighborhoods.
While in Marquette on March 27, 2014, the consulting team conducted a visioning session with the community to identify opportunities, gather input to guide the process and help direct the future development of Baraga Avenue. The second phase is a series of workshops, known as charrettes, designed to solicit feedback on the preliminary design ideas conceptualized from the visioning session. These charrettes will be open for general public drop-in sessions on Tuesday, April 29 from 5:00pm-7:00pm and Wednesday, April 30 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the Marquette Commons, 112 South Third Street, Marquette.
For additional information on the Baraga Avenue redesign project, contact the Marquette Downtown Development Authority office at 906-228-9475 or e-mail Mona Lang at mlang@downtownmarquette.org.
