MARQUETTE, MI – Graphic” will meet on Tuesday, April 28th, 7:30 pm, in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library. We will be discussing “Above the Dreamless Dead: World War I in Poetry and Comics” edited by Chris Duffy, adapted and illustrated by various contributors.
A very interesting outcome of the First World War was a new literary movement in England, Trench Poetry. Both seasoned writers and regular soldiers found solace expressing their thoughts, feelings, and what they witnessed through poetry written in the trenches of the Western Front. From poets Isaac Rosenberg to Siegfried Sasson and Rudyard Kipling, and adaptations from comic legends Garth Ennis, Stephen R. Bissette and Danica Novgorodoff, “Above the Dreamless Dead’s” textual and visual exploration of the horrors of World War I are sure to stir a lively discussion.
Whether you are a seasoned comic reader, or are simply looking to join a book club, we are always seeking new members. Even if you don’t read the book before the meeting, join us for a lively discussion. However, you must be age 18 or older due to mature content.
Mention “Let’s Get Graphic” when buying “Above the Dreamless Dead” at Taiga Games and receive 15% off the trade paperback.
