Marquette, Mich. – Ore Dock Brewing Company will hold a Grand Opening
Celebration beginning Friday, August 31, 2012. The microbrewery’s
first floor tasting room opened over Memorial Day weekend, and more
than 200 barrels have been brewed on the 10-barrel system since then.
The party will mark the first time the second floor bar and community
space will be revealed to the public.
“The response we’ve received since the beginning has been very
positive and we’re thankful for the support,” said Andrea
Pernsteiner, Ore Dock Brewing Company Vice-President. “We’re
excited to celebrate both floors of the brewery being open.”
The festivities begin at 5 p.m. Friday with complimentary appetizers
from the Border Grill, Huron Earth Deli and the Marquette Baking
Company. There will be live music by Mike Waite and Kerry Yost and the
Door Cats. Mike and the Marquette’s, which play blues-style music,
perform Saturday and complement the Marquette Area Blues Fest taking
place at Marquette’s Lower Harbor, of which Ore Dock is a sponsor.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can enter to win tickets to the U.P.
Fall Beer Festival and a chance to be a “Brewer for a Day” at Ore
Dock Brewing Company as well as other prizes.
The brewery specializes in Belgian-style ales, and strives to always
have a variation of Saison, French for “season,” on tap.
Dreamweaver, a Belgian Amber made with chamomile and sweet orange peel
has quickly grown to be a customer favorite. More established styles,
such as an IPA, Pale Ale and Porter are also included in the menu.
Special for the Grand Opening weekend will be a Blackberry-Cocoa Stout
paired with ice cream to make Stout Floats, along with Finnish Sahti,
a traditional Finnish ale featuring locally-sourced juniper.
“I’ve been squirreling away kegs and brewing special beers over
the past month for the Grand Opening,” says Brewmaster Nick
VanCourt.
Moving forward, Ore Dock Brewing Company will continue to encourage
customers to bring in food or order in from one of Marquette’s great
restaurants. And with the opening of the second floor, the brewery
will carry a limited food selection from local restaurants for
purchase.
“We want to support other local businesses because we feel Ore Dock
Brewing Company is where craft beer meets community,” said
Pernsteiner. “We envision the community space to be a gathering
place for those who want to exchange ideas and good conversation over
a beer.”
Over 30 contractors, primarily local, were employed in the
construction and renovation of the old Frei Chevrolet building. The
brewery was constructed with an emphasis on reclamation and reuse of
materials. Massive steel beams retain worker’s names, dates and
other hand-scrawled information from when they were first installed in
the building. The second level bar features ore pellets and weathered
tin barn roof as part of its design.
Ore Dock Brewing Company is currently in the process of selecting a
distributor, which will enable sales at bars and restaurants, in
addition to the brewery and tasting room location at 114 W. Spring
Street.
