MARQUETTE, Mich.— Two Northern Michigan University vocal groups—the University Choir and Lake Effect Show Choir—will perform a joint concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free.
The University Choir, under the direction of Rob Engelhart, will open with the NMU alma mater before launching into two pieces from P.D.Q. Bach’s light-hearted “Liebeslieder Polkas.” Other selections include three traditional spirituals and “O Vos Omnes,” a choir composition by renowned cellist Pablo Casals that expresses grief over human suffering. Lynne Lanczy is the accompanist.
Lake Effect will present four “timely” show tunes: “Seasons of Love” from A Chorus Line; “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing; “Once Upon a Time” from All-American; and “Step in Time” from Mary Poppins. Lake Effect is directed by Sharon Green with accompaniment by Annette Brown and choreography by Jill Grundstrom.
