NMU’s DeVos Art Museum to Host Events

Northern Michigan University’s DeVos Art Museum will wrap up February with a faculty presentation on the “gothic” in art and a new display of five mini-exhibitions of student work.

Art history professor Mitsutoshi Oba will present an overview of the idea of the “gothic” throughout history and how it is presented in today’s popular culture at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in room 165 of the Art and Design Building. The presentation will begin with 30 minutes of curated film clips that utilize gothic themes and symbols and then move into his talk on the subject.

ArtLAB3, a series of exhibitions by NMU School of Art and Design students, will showcase five new mini-exhibitions through March 8.

DeVos Art Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. weekends.
