Marquette, Mich.: A new furniture upcycling contest, featuring redesigned furniture from 10 area contestants, seeks to raise funds for Marquette County Habitat for Humanity. Redo: View and Brew takes place on Saturday, June 14 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. where the furniture will be on display at Ore Dock Brewing Company. For $10, members of the public will receive a drink ticket, fancy snacks and the ability to vote for their favorite piece.
“The inspiration for this fundraiser came from our love of design and DIY,” said Jessica Jones. “The partnership with Habitat for Humanity, whose vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live, was a natural fit,” added Marina Dupler. The two Marquette residents are organizing the event under the name of North Coast Collective, an initiative that seeks to find and foster design and style in the Upper Peninsula and beyond.
“Redo: View and Brew seeks to celebrate the inner-DIY in all of us, bringing together those who enjoy and appreciate upcycled furniture, while promoting reuse over refuse,” said Jones.
The revamped furniture will be available for purchase at the event via silent auction. All proceeds raised through ticket and furniture sales will go to Marquette County Habitat for Humanity. In addition to the fan favorite, chosen by event attendees, a panel of local experts has been convened to award a contest winner.
Event sponsors include Casualties Skate Snow Surf, Ore Dock Brewing Company, The Landmark, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Food has been donated by Tadych’s Econo Foods and Sweet Basil Café. Garden Bouquet will contribute plants for the occasion.
