Trp. Basanese enlisted in the Michigan State Police in 1998 and has worked as a trooper at the Gladstone and Iron Mountain posts. In 2011, he was selected as a Michigan State Police Community Service Trooper, which means he is focused on community outreach to help strengthen communities. He transferred to the Iron Mountain Post in 2012, continuing in this role and has received numerous and extensive community service trainings that he uses to serve the community. Trp. Basanese has successfully completed the Standard Field Sobriety and Breath Test Operator courses.
Trp. Basanese has been involved in a variety of community and school presentations and trainings, which include topics such as emergency and disaster preparedness, bullying, alcohol and drug prevention and identity theft/scams.
Trooper Gregory Primeau, Michigan State Police Trooper Primeau began his career in Law Enforcement at Northern Michigan University’s Regional Police Academy in 2000. He worked for Meridian Township Police Department from October 2000 thru June 2004. During this time he successfully completed the Standard Field Sobriety Testing Course, as well as being a Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Tpr. Primeau completed the Michigan State Police Academy 2004. Then, he was assigned to the Groveland Post in Holly, Michigan for three and a half years, before transferring to the Detroit Post.
In September 2010 Tpr. Primeau completed the Standard Field Sobriety Instructor Course and became a Class III Breath Test Operator. Also, he was accepted in the first Drug Recognition Expert School in Michigan completing Phases I and II then going on to Phoenix, Arizona to complete Phase III. In October 2011 Tpr. Primeau transferred to the Iron Mountain Post where he attended Field Training Officer School (FTO) in 2012. He taught at the 2013 Drug Recognition School and attended the Field Evaluations in Phoenix as an instructor.
Tpr. Primeau was awarded the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He was also awarded the Michigan State Police, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Outstanding Trooper Award for 2013.
Mike Tobias, Michigan Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking (MCRUD) Prevention Network In addition to being the Coordinator for the Michigan Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking, Mike is also the Executive Director of Michigan Alcohol Policy Promoting Health and Safety. He is also a board member of the American Alcohol and Drug Information Foundation, a board member of Michigan Recovery Voice, and a member of the Michigan Prevention Association. When he is not working on alcohol policy issues he enjoys spending time with his family, camping, fishing, reading, attending concerts and sporting events, and traveling. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and has been a certified prevention specialist since 2002.
Dr. John Lehtinen, Marquette General Hospital Dr. John L. Lehtinen, MD is from Marquette, Michigan, practicing at Marquette General Hospital. He is Board Certified in Family Practice, Sports Medicine, Geriatric Medicine & Addiction Medicine. He did his undergraduate training at Michigan Technological University, his medical school training at Wayne State University School of Medicine, and his graduate medical education was in Family Practice at St. John Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. He was the Program Director of the Family Practice Residency at Marquette General Hospital for 20 years and is now Program Director Emeritus of that program. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine, Wayne State University School of Medicine, and is Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He currently practices Addiction Medicine, Sports Medicine & Occupational Medicine. He has been practicing medicine in Marquette for over 33 years. He is the only Board Certified Addiction Medicine Physician in the Upper Peninsula. He has been a Sports Medicine Physician for over 40 years. He has also worked in Correctional Health Care. He has been practicing Occupational Medicine for over 15 years. He was named the Corporate Medical Director for Occupational Athletics, Inc. in 2012. He has been the Team Physician for Northern Michigan University for over 33 years. He is also an assistant coach for Northern Michigan University’s Hockey team. He has worked USA Olympic Festivals, Pan American Games & 3 Olympic Games (Barcelona, Atlanta, Beijing). He continues to work with USA Hockey. Dr. Lehtinen has received numerous honors and awards. He was the recipient of the 1996 Northern Michigan University’s “PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED CITIZENSHIP” and the 1999 Michigan State Medical Society’s “COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD.” He was MVP for the Team USA Hockey Team, Porvoo, Finland 1994. “Dr. Hook” is still actively patrolling the Blue Line while playing hockey.
Trooper Geno Basanese, Michigan State Police Trooper Basanese began his college education playing basketball while earning a degree in Auto Mechanics from Gogebic Community College. He then went on to earn his Business Administration degree at Northern Michigan University in 1994. He attended the Federal Indian Police Academy in Artesia, New Mexico and worked as a policeman at Lac Vieux Desert Police Department in Watersmeet, Michigan.
