(Marquette, Michigan) – Beta Alpha Psi (NMU’s Accounting & Finance Club) will be preparing taxes free of charge every Sunday from February 9 – April 12th from 1-4pm. We have two locations this year: one in the Marquette Room of the University Center, and one in the Peter White Library. Students, as well as any low-income individuals (under 50k gross income) are welcome to this event.
We do this through the VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). It is set up through the IRS, and we all must pass a test to become certified to prepare taxes.
Our members are mainly accounting majors and do this to gain experience preparing taxes, as well as to help out the community. Last year a student did not file her taxes for the three previous years, and we ended up getting her over $2,000 back from the IRS.
Hope that helps, if you need any more detail or explanation feel free to ask. Thanks again for helping spread the word about this.
