MDOT Asks Public for Feedback on ITS technology

What do you think of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) use of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology in Michigan? The department’s ITS Program Office would like to know. ITS engineers are partnering with researchers at Western Michigan University to survey the public’s awareness and use of the ITS services MDOT provides to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently on I, US and M routes. The short five-minute survey is available on Mi Drive, MDOT’s traffic information website, at: www.michigan.gov/drive.

MDOT uses ITS to provide motorists with real-time information about construction, congestion, travel times, traffic incidents and other factors that can affect travel. Some examples include Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), travel time signs (TTS), closed-circuit television cameras (CCTC), road weather information systems (RWIS), the department’s Mi Drive traffic information site (Web-based or mobile), and its Freeway Courtesy Patrol service in southeast Michigan and selected freeways in Livingston and Washtenaw counties.

The survey is intended to evaluate the effectiveness of ITS in promoting safety, mobility and efficiency. Responses will be kept confidential and reported only in the aggregate. The department plans to use what it learns to improve its use of ITS technology. More information about ITS is available on the MDOT website at: www.michigan.gov/its.
