Negaunee, MI – The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority (IOHRA) will be officially cutting the ribbon on the 12-mile trail section connecting Marquette and Negaunee on Tuesday, August 13, 2:25 pm at the Negaunee Old Towne Park (across from Negaunee Senior Center). Governor Snyder, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and DNR Director Keith Creagh will be speakers at the event.
The $1.9 million project involved land purchases, land swaps, retaining easements, making the Soo Line bridge pedestrian friendly, and negotiating a railroad crossing. The project was paid for by a $777,800 Michigan Department of Transportation Enhancement grant, a $400,000 DNR Trust Fund Grant, a $200,000 Cliffs Foundation grant (the first $50,000 will be presented at the ribbon cutting), $7500 Dalmac Grant, $5000 Michigan Trails and Greenways Grant; $4000 Marquette and Negaunee Community Foundations, $2500 KBIC Grant, and $469,000 Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority millage.
