Calendar – Community – By Way of the Water: Celebrating Marquette’s Legacy – July 15

Marquette – The City of Marquette will present “By Way of the Water: Celebrating Marquette’s Legacy” with many events exploring local history, art and the restoration of the Father Marquette statue.

“Restoring Father Marquette,” a lecture with Giorgio Gikas of Venus Bronze Works, will be offered on Monday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at the Hampton Inn. The lecture is free of charge.

Celebrate the restoration of the Father Marquette Statue with a ribbon cutting ceremony, birch bark flotilla, and performances by Marquette City Band ensemble and Lake Superior Theatre at 7 p.m. at the statue site at Lakeside Park.

The evening will finish with the Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committees’ 35th Birthday, complimentary cake and lemonade. The celebration is free and open to all ages.
