Marquette, Michigan – Documentary film fans and local history buffs are invited to view the film 1913 Massacre and meet the film’s producer/directors on Monday, June 24 at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library’s community room.
Subtitled “A Film Inspired by a Woody Guthrie Song”, 1913 Massacre follows singer/songwriter Arlo Guthrie to the town of Calumet, a once-thriving mining town on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula still haunted by the tragic events that inspired Woody Guthrie’s ballad, ‘1913
Massacre.’ The film captures the last living witnesses of the 1913 tragedy, reconstructs Calumet’s past from individual memories, family legends and songs, and traces the legacy of the Italian Hall disaster to the present day.
Co-producers/directors, Louis V. Galdieri and Ken Ross, will lead a question and answer session after the screening of the film. Galdieri is a writer and documentarian based in Brooklyn, New York, who has written screenplays and collaborated film and TV projects. Before
making films, he taught history and literature at UC Berkeley and MIT.
Ken Ross is an award-winning director and cinematographer of documentaries, independent films, commercials, music videos and TV shows. His work has appeared on ABC, HBO, Lifetime, Nickelodeon, and PBS. Ross has taught film production and aesthetics Bard College,
