The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that Fayette Historic State Park’s annual Christmas in June event will be held on Saturday, June 15. Michigan residents and visitors are invited to get out their camper or tent and come enjoy the Christmas spirit without the snow.
The theme for this year’s Christmas in June event is all things Hawaiian, so visitors can join park staff and have some fun in the Michigan sun, sporting all things tropical. Those who are camping can join the campsite decorating contest – the winner will be selected by their camping peers. There will also be an open house for the newly renovated Furnace Hill Lodge, providing an opportunity to check out this unique lodging option for visitors looking to spend time exploring this restored town site.
There will be Hawaiian activities throughout the day to thrill all ages at various locations within the baseball field at the park. Activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will include minnow races, coconut bowling, a flamingo ring toss, aloha limbo, Hawaiian Plinko, face painting, bounce houses and many more surprise activities! There will also be a special visit from St. Nick himself.
A (hot dog) concession stand with non-traditional Hawaiian luau foods for purchase also will be available during the festivities.
A detailed schedule of events and more information can be obtained by calling Fayette Historic State Park, located at 4785 II Road in Garden, at 906-644-2603. For camping reservations, call 800-447-2757 or go to http://www.midnrreservations.com.
