Afternoon Classic Films presents a screening of “The Lion in Winter” on Monday, March 4 at 1:30 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.
This historical drama, set in 1183 AD. revolves around aging King Henry II, played by Peter O’Toole, and his three sons who all want to inherit the throne. They and his estranged wife, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, played by Katharine Hepburn, variously plot to force him to commit to a choice of who will be the next king. Meanwhile, Henry’s mistress adds to the drama by demanding either a wedding or the return of her dowry.
The 3 time Oscar winner, “The Lion in Winter” also stars Anthony Hopkins, in his film debut, as Richard the Lionheart. The film was released in color in 1968 and runs for 134 minutes.
