LANSING— Beginning Jan. 7, the Michigan Humanities Council will begin accepting final applications and drafts for Michigan nonprofits wishing to apply for a major grant award of up to $15,000.
The MHC Major Grant Program emphasizes collaboration among cultural, educational and community-based organizations and institutions in order to serve Michigan’s people with public humanities programming. The resulting grant projects should have a humanities focus with an intent to connect Michigan’s cultural heritage and historical resources while helping us reason together and learn from each other.
All final applications must be submitted no later than March 11 via the MHC online granting system. No paper applications will be accepted this year. To prepare for complications applicants may experience during the online process, we strongly encourage applications to be submitted early. Although applications may be submitted through midnight on March 11, staff assistance will only be available until 5 p.m. To apply, visit www.michiganhumanities.org and follow the “Apply for a Grant” link in the right-hand sidebar.
Drafts must be submitted no later than Jan. 31 and follow the guideline available at www.michiganhumanities.org/grants/major.php. Submitting a draft is highly encouraged, especially for those applying for the first time. Review comments will be returned by email in the order received no later than March 4. Comments are intended to provide applicants with feedback related to the eligibility, relevance and strength of the proposal within the context of the major grant program review and evaluation parameters.
To see if your organization is eligible, or to review a list of project requirements and eligible/ineligible budget items, visit www.michiganhumanities.org/grants/major.php. If you have questions during the application process, or to determine whether or not a project may qualify, please call the MHC office at (517) 372-7770 or contact Major Grants Officer Robbe DiPietro at rdipietro@mihumanities.org. Applicants will be notified of funding in mid-May.
