Marquette, MI – The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority is
updating their five-year recreation master plan and is looking for the public’s input on priorities. A trail survey on development of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail is available online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C5786SR or printed copies are available
by calling 906-235-2923. Trail surveys are due back by October 19,
2012.
“Our original master plan was adopted in 2008 and we have finalized
some of our projects and are in the middle of others. This plan will
take us forward for the next five years,” said Jim Thomas, Chair of
the Recreation Authority. “We want the residents to provide input on
their wants and needs so we can prioritize projects.”
The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority was formed in 2007 to
build, manage, and maintain the proposed 48-mile, multi-use, year
round, interpretive trail across the Marquette Iron Range. The
Authority has brought in over $2.2 million in funding to build 17
miles of trail and interpret 17 sites along the trail. A .2 millage
was approved by voters in eight municipalities in 2010 and 2011 to
provide funding for development of the trail.
