Health Lecture Addresses Medical Futility

MARQUETTE, Mich.—The next presentation in the Your Health Lecture Series is titled “Managing Medical Futility: Ethical, Sociological, Legal and Medical Implications.” It is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in Reynolds Recital Hall at Northern Michigan University. The public is invited free of charge.

Dr. Marc Basson, professor and chair of the department of surgery at Michigan State University, will explain what should be done when the news is there’s no more that can be done. He will outline what healthcare professionals consider and what patients and family members should know about managing medical futility. Basson also serves as assistant dean for faculty development and research at MSU, in addition to attending surgeon at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Your Health is a collaborative series sponsored by Marquette General Health System, NMU, MSU’s College of Human Medicine-Upper Peninsula Region and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
