Marquette – Andrew Skurka, an accomplished 28-year-old outdoor adventurer, will give two presentations at Northern Michigan University on Tuesday, January 19.
A lightweight backpacking and skills clinic will be offered from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. in the Great Lakes Room of the University Center.The hands-on clinic will demonstrate how to be safer and more comfortable, and have more fun, by carrying less and lighter equipment on your next backpacking trip. There will be discussion about lightweight backpacking and a demonstration of lightweight gear.
“Far, Fast, and Light: 23,000-Plus miles of Outdoor Adventures,” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in Jamrich Hall Room 102. Skurka will share experiences from the American West, Alaska, Iceland, North Country and the Appalachian Mountains. He will also reflect on the broader significance and meaning of his experiences, and highlight the life lessons learned along the way. The narrative is complimented by stunning photography and amusing video clips. A question and answer session will follow, and an assortment of Skurka’s lightweight backpacking gear will be on display.
