In the spirit of Woody Guthrie, the folks at NMU’s Department of Earth,
Environmental &
Geographical Sciences are organizing a workshop called “Making Music for Social & Environmental Change” on Monday, September 22 from 4-6pm at the Wahtera Pavillion at NMU. There will be brief talks about the historical role of music as a tool to resist authoritarianism and the exploitation of land and people. Then four local songwriters, including Tyler Dettloff, Ash Roskowski, Brian Wallen and John Gillette, will discuss their work and play some tunes. There will be time at the end for playing and singing together. All are welcome and encouraged to bring their voices, instruments, and friends!
This workshop is part of Environmental Action week with more than just the songwriter workshop planned -see the broader Environmental Action events below!
