Iron Mountain VAMC hosts Drug Take Back Day

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center will host a Drug Take Back event Friday, October 25th, 2024, from 9:00am to 4:30pm at the Iron Mountain campus. This is provided so anyone can safely dispose of unwanted medications. No liquids or syringes in designated safe return receptacles during this time.

We welcome both Veterans and non-Veterans to participate in this bi-annual event,”  said Oscar G. Johnson VAMC Chief of Police Services Patrick Palmquist. “Just look for our red coat volunteers, those wearing recognizable vests. They will direct you to the disposable container.”

The Department of Veterans Affairs launched this nationwide effort to assist Veterans and non-Veterans with the disposal of unused or expired prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs, including controlled substance prescription medications, on designated VA Medication Take Back Days. The effort is part of the Presidents’ Dispose of Unused Medications and Prescription (DUMP) Opioids Act, signed into law in 2021.

For more information, call (906)-774-3300 and ask to speak with police services.
