Northern Michigan University: Indigenous Perspectives Symposium on Arts

The annual Perspectives on Indigenous Arts Symposium creates a space for knowledge dissemination, focusing on the intersection of art with Indigenous Peoples, communities, Tribal governments, and lifeways. 

Join Northern Michigan University for this 1st annual Indigenous Perspectives Symposium on Arts! Friday, November 1st at NMU’s Northern Center for a full day of presentations, workshops, and film including:

Keynote presentation by Jonathan Thunder, Curated Anishinaabe Art by Ziibiwing Center, Boarding school art by Indigenous students, interactive activities like murals and a bead working workshop, Cultural performances throughout the day, native vendors, Anishinaabe diet inspired food, and the film “Bring them Home” narrated by Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone. The film will be shown in Jamrich Hall Theater at 6pm.

Event durations (if noted) are approximate, this event will take place all day. Doors will open 8am and the program begins at 9am!
