Travel Marquette Launches Hospitality for Heroes for Frontline Medical Professionals April 27, 2020

MARQUETTE, Mich., April 27, 2020 – Travel Marquette announced today the launch of Hospitality for Heroes, a new program that pairs frontline medical professionals leading the fight against COVID-19 with local hotels for nightly accommodations. The rooms will be made available at no charge to doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics and other frontline medical staff who need a place to sleep, recharge or isolate from their families.

“Medical professionals have been working tirelessly through a global pandemic to keep us safe,” says Emily Leach, Senior Planner for Marquette County. “By providing hotel rooms as temporary housing options, we hope to help keep their families safe and alleviate any fears about returning home.”

Hospitality for Heroes is a collaboration between Travel Marquette, Marquette County and the Marquette County Health Department. The program is being funded by grants from regional and national foundations so that hotels can be reimbursed for costs associated with hosting workers. Travel Marquette is administering the program and have confirmed funding from three organizations: Community Foundation of Marquette County, Superior Health Foundation and West End Health Foundation. The program has limited funds, but felt it was important to begin distributing what has been collected to date immediately to help those in need. Travel Marquette is still actively seeking donations but is unable to accept individual contributions at this time. Hospitality for Heroes plans to run for as long as funds are available.

“During this crisis, medical professionals have been working in the most challenging circumstances, sacrificing their own needs for the greater good,” says Susan Estler, Executive Director of Travel Marquette. “We are honored to work with local hotels to support these heroes as they continue to serve the community during this difficult time. Furthermore, we are thankful to those foundations who have donated funds to make this program possible.”

To participate, healthcare workers must fill out an online application and attach a copy of their badge or letter from their employer certifying their license is active. Requests are reviewed in the order they are received. Upon approval, healthcare workers would receive a letter from Travel Marquette with the link to the program website where they would make their arrangements directly with the hotel of their choice. The program will cover a maximum of five nights, but workers are welcome to stay longer at their own expense. A valid form of payment is required at check-in to cover any incidental experiences. All participating hotels will submit hotels bills, accompanied by the approval letter, directly to Travel Marquette for payment.

All hotels are following Marquette County Health Department guidance for proper sanitation and social distancing to minimize the potential for virus exposure. Participating hotels in Marquette County include:

Big Bay Motel
Country Inn and Suites
The Days Inn
Magnuson Hotel Country Inn
My Place Hotel
Landmark Inn
Ramada by Wyndham Marquette
Staybridge Suites

Hotels that are interested in participating should contact Susan Estler at susan@travelmarquette.com.
