Marquette, MI – October 20, 2018 – The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will present a three-part tapestry weaving workshop as part of its upcoming exhibition, Ancestral Women. Award-winning weaver Mary Burns, whose work resides in private homes across the nation and reflects her love of northern woodlands and waters, will lead the workshop. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 26.
Sessions are scheduled as follows: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17. Total cost of the workshop is $10 for NMU students and $25 for the general public.
Burns creates tapestries and felted work that reflect the hues and patterns of the natural world. Her Ancestral Women Exhibit is currently on a U.S. tour. She gathers inspiration from many places and cultures, including the natural world, ancient rock art, the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright, and the arts and crafts movement. Her awards include Best of Show in Wausau’s Festival of Arts in 2012 and 2008.
