Marquette, Michigan – DocuMonday presents a film screening of “Thunder Soul” on Monday, February 4 at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.

Presented by Jamie Foxx, THUNDER SOUL follows the extraordinary alumni from Houston’s storied Kashmere High School Stage Band, who return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for the 92-year-old “Prof,” their beloved band leader, Conrad Johnson, who broke the color barrier and transformed the school’s struggling jazz band into a world-class funk powerhouse in the early 1970’s.

Said Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter, “A greater argument for music education in our secondary school curriculum can’t be made than Mark Landsman’s doc about a Texas high school funk band that tore up the music scene from 1968 to 1977.”

Winner of numerous film festival awards, Thunder Soul was released in 2011, is rated PG, and runs for 83 minutes.

There is no admission charge to the film thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
