Beaumier Center Screens Cold War Films March 13th & 27th

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will host two film showings during the month of March. The showings are held in conjunction with the Beaumier Center’s “Cold War in the U.P.” exhibition. Both screenings will begin at 7 p.m. and a discussion with center director Daniel Truckey will follow each film.

On Tuesday, March 13, a screening of “The Day After” will be offered. The 1983 film describes the frightening story of the weeks leading up to and following a nuclear strike that took place in Lawrence, Kan.

On Tuesday, March 27, a screening of “Red Dawn” will be offered. Soviet, Nicaraguan and Cuban troops land on the football field of a Colorado high school from a rocket. As the troops attack the school, a group of teenagers runs into the mountains. Armed with only hunting rifles, pistols and bows and arrows, the group members find themselves in warfare against the Soviet K.G.B.

On each night of film showings, the “Cold War in the U.P.” exhibition will be open. The film showings are free and open to the public. Popcorn will be available for purchase.
