Native American filmmakers Ava Hamilton and Leahn Cox will show two short films at 6 p.m. Monday, October 1 in the Whitman Hall commons at Northern Michigan University. Hamilton directed the short documentary “Indians for Indians: A Radio Program.” She is a member of the Arapaho tribe from Boulder, Colo. Cox’s film “Blood Ties” was featured at the 2005 Southwest Native American Film Festival. She created the film to deal with social issues, express her opinions and inspire viewers. Cox is in the process of starting a nonprofit film foundation devoted to empowering Native Americans to become engaged in the world and is a member of the Dine’ tribe.
