The Finlandia University Finnish American Center, 435 Quincy Street in Hancock, will begin its 2007 Nordic Film Series on Thursday, September 20 with “Mother of Mine,” as part of the inauguration celebration for new Finlandia President Philip Johnson. During WW II, more than 70,000 Finnish children were evacuated to neutral Sweden. The film focuses on one child who feels abandoned by his own mother and not yet comfortable with his Swedish surrogate mother. His confusion intensifies when he returns to Finland. In Finnish with English subtitles. No charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.
