Marquette – As part of its Building Love: Imagine series, “Native Rights and Broken Promises: Early Mining Issues” will be presented on Tuesday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Native People’s law attorney Rich Vander Veen will discuss the case of Charlotte Kobogom vs. Jackson Iron Company. After signing a contract and promising Charlotte’s father that they would share the wealth from the iron ore he had found for them, the Jackson Iron Company reneged. Promises made, promises not kept! Not only will Rich present the details of the case, but he will also emphasize that tolerance is needed in America and promises need to be kept.
There is no admission charge to attend thanks to sponsorship by the Peter White Public Library and Forward Action Michigan-UP. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
