Bards and Brews Reading Event November 16th at Northern Michigan University

Marquette, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University English department will host “An Unquieting: power, violence and narratives that refuse to stay silent” from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Ore Dock Brewing Company. This free event is part of the Bards & Brews creative reading series held the third Thursday of each month.

November’s reading will feature two writers. NMU assistant professor of English Rachel May will read selections from her creative non-fiction book An American Quilt: Unfolding a Story of Family and Slavery. Mays’ creative work has been published in many literary journals including Michigan Quarterly Review, Indiana Review and the Los Angeles Review of Books.

Washington-based poet Caitlin Scarano will read from her collection of poems, Do Not Bring Him Water, which was released in Fall 2017. Scarano is a current doctoral candidate in English/Creative Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was the winner of the 2015 Indiana Review Poetry Prize, and her poem Mule was included in the Best Poets 2016 anthology.
