VA to Host POW/MIA Ceremony at Ford Airport on September 15

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, Michigan, will be holding a National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017, at Ford Airport in Kingsford, Michigan. This year’s ceremony is being held in conjunction with the Ford Airport Days and Friday’s Veterans Preview Event associated with it.
The public is welcome to attend the ceremony. The ceremony will pay tribute to America’s former prisoners of war who live in the area and those killed or still missing in action. Five former POWs from World War II and Korea will be attending the ceremony.
The keynote speaker is Mr. James Rice, Director at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center. The ceremony will include music and readings by VA staff and volunteers, Color Guard by American Legion Post 50, and taps. A private luncheon for the former POWs and their families will follow the ceremony.
The ceremony will take place in the hangar on the east ramp of the airport. The airport is located at 500 Riverhills Rd. in Kingsford, Michigan.
Questions regarding the POW/MIA ceremony may be directed to Laura Branz at (906) 774-3300, extension 32604.
