Eugene Arduin and Bob Whitens to Present at 12th Annual Young Trappers Workshop – 2/4/17

Hermansville, MichiganFebruary 2, 2017 – Youngsters and beginning trappers will have an opportunity to learn from expert trappers at the twelfth annual Young Trappers Workshop — sponsored by district 3 of the U.P. Trappers Association. Legendary local trapping experts Eugene Arduin and Bob Whitens will be teaching kids how to trap weasels, mink, muskrats and raccoons. Both of these gentlemen have been trapping for many years, so not only the kids – but the adults in the crowd – will learn valuable “tricks” they can use on their own trap lines. Other trapping experts including Bob Steinmetz, Roy Dahlgren, John Gunville and others will be on hand and eager to answer questions about trapping other furbearers like beaver, fox, and coyotes. Just ask at the information desk and you will be introduced to someone who has been very successful trapping the animal you are interested in pursuing!

Learning how to capture the animals is only the first step in becoming a successful trapper. The next requirement is learning how to properly prepare the furs for market. Rich Clark, a professional fur-handler from Willow Tree Fur and North American Fur Auctions, will be showing the youngsters how to make sure their furs bring top prices.

“Ever since Rick Arduin brought this event into being back in 2005, it has grown in popularity each year. Last year we had almost 150 kids attend! For us old-timers this event is the highlight of our winter. It is great to see all the happy, excited youngsters getting interested in the sport of trapping and the outdoors,” said Jim Fornetti longtime member of the U.P. Trapper’s Association

The all day workshop is FREE and the public is invited. Both beginning and experienced trappers can expect to pick up valuable skills. EVERY YOUNGSTER GETS A FREE WEASEL BOX (INCLUDING THE TRAP) AND WILL WIN SOMETHING IN THE RAFFLE! Food will be available for purchase, so attendees can plan to spend the entire day. Trapping supplies can be purchased from two well-stocked vendors. And a local fur buyer will be buying fur – put up, green, and in the round.

The event is being held at the Hermansville Community Center from 8:00 AM (Central Time) till late afternoon on Saturday, February 4, 2017. For directions or further information contact Mike Lewis at (906) 774-3592 or visit the trappers’ website at www.uptrappers.com.
